Observatory Location

Location

Harleysville PA.

40° 16′ 46″ North (40.279549)

75° 23′ 12″ West (-75.386745)

Elevation: 259 ′  (78.9 meters)

Visual Mag. : 4.5 (faintest stars visible under the very best sky conditions)

There is alot of light pollution at my location and it has worsened over the past 10 years. The township has resently passed laws to reduce some of the light pollution but, as usual, nothing will be done about the current lighting problem. The worst offenders in town are Hennings Supermarket and Harleysville National Bank (now First Niagara),  Walmart shopping center and a few of the churches that shine light up to highlight the cross on their wall. Each of these business contribute to more than 45% of the sky glow which drowns out the night sky.
